About GRAVITEQA

GRAVITEQA — GRAVITational StoragE, Quantum computing, and AI for enhanced Circularity and Reliability in Clean transition-affected sector-coupled electricity grids— is a Horizon Europe project (Grant Agreement ID: 101192566) led by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Running from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2027, and funded under the Call Cross-sectoral solutions for the climate transition (HORIZON-CL5-2024-D2-01), GRAVITEQA addresses some of the most urgent energy transition challenges across Europe.

Our groundbreaking work integrates:

• Gravitational energy storage
• Quantum computing (QC) & Quantum-Inspired Computing (QIC)
• AI-driven analytics

These technologies are used to enhance the reliability, circularity, and flexibility of Europe’s future electricity grids. Among our key innovations:

• Repurposing decommissioned coal plants into long-duration energy storage facilities
• Deploying trustworthy AI for secure, resilient grid operation
• Introducing edge intelligence to process data locally and enhance grid operation efficiency
